History of Ermenegildo Zegna
Ermenegildo Zegna is known throughout the world as one of the best fashion designers in the world. But he’s also one with the humblest of beginnings, and a most interesting story.
It was in 1910 that Ermenegildo, at the age of just 22, opened his first store in the town of Trivero, Italy, which lies at the very bottom of The Alps. At the time, Trivero was a somewhat destitute and isolated town. And Ermenegildo’s fine men’s suits made from only the best wools were the fresh air that breathed new life into this town.
By the late 1930s, the name Zegna was a big one in the fashion industry and for the first time, fabrics started being imported to fine Zegna specialty stores throughout the United States. The name was definitely becoming world-renowned and in the 1960s after Ermenegildo’s passing, his two sons took over the business. The sons kept the integrity and style that their father had created, but they also worked on expanding the brand. Soon, not only did Zegna lines include fine suits, trousers and shirts, but the best mens sportswear, too. In the 80s, the sons also began opening up their own stores throughout the world – a first for this fashion designer.
Today you can find the best styles and fashion from Zegna in Paris, Milan, the United States, and throughout the entire world. The company currently has over 300 boutiques all over the world, and they also distribute to fine men’s fashion stores like us here at Harleys!
